?General Motors said today that ATT plans to buy 1,200 of its Chevrolet Express compressed natural gas cargo vans for use at ATT service centers around the country.
The order is Detroit-based GM’s largest so far for its compressed natural gas vehicles. Financial terms were not disclosed, but the automaker said the purchase is part of ATT’s plan to spend up to $565 million on 15,000 alternative fuel vehicles over 10 years through 2018.
The Dallas-based telecommunications company will use the vans to provide and maintain communications, Internet and TV services for its customers. The compressed natural gas vehicles are a cost-effective way for the company to reduce its fleet-based carbon emissions, ATT said.
The compressed natural gas option is available for order on Chevrolet Express 2500 and 3500 cargo vans, GM said.
In midday trading, GM shares fell 8 cents to $24.29, while ATT shares rose 1 cent to $29.17.?
