Tax Decal No Longer Needed For CNG Vehicles

Oklahoma motorists who drive vehicles powered by compressed natural gas no longer need a $100 special fuel tax decal.

A new law in effect Sunday drops the requirement for the annual tax decal.

Officials want taxes on fuel for CNG vehicles to be lower than gasoline or diesel as an incentive for drivers to use the alternative fuel cars and trucks, reports show.

Compressed natural gas is still subject to an excise tax that is reflected in the price at the pump.

However, motorists whose vehicles use liquefied petroleum gas still have to buy the decals. Most vehicles powered by LP gas are used off-road.

The Oklahoma Legislature in its last session approved ending use of the $100 annual tax decal for CNG vehicles.?
