Gulf Breeze’s new refuelling point will be funded with USD 220,000 provided by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) alternative projects grants. Besides, local authorities have prioritized converting the city’s automotive fleet to compressed natural gas.

“We are looking at three sites: by the county building being leased by the Gulf Breeze Chamber where our regulator station sits on Highway 98, and in our public works yard behind City Hall. We are also considering the impound lot near the library,” said Vernon Prather, Public Services Director for the City of Gulf Breeze. “With this installation, consumers can then consider CNG automobiles for personal use.”

Furthermore, the city will acquire three natural gas powered vans, with a cost of USD 35,424 each one, which will be delivered by March, reported Gulf Breeze News. “We think our CNG pumping station will be up and running by then,” added Prather.

City Manager Edwin Eddy stated, “We have analysed the life cycle of the proposed CNG vehicle and believe that the vans offer a good operational value to the city. And we will save substantial fuel costs as well.”

Gulf Breeze Natural Gas will fund the purchase of one van, while the other two, which will be used by the city water utility, will be allocated under the FEMA alternative project N° 11, which authorized USD 80,000 for Public Services vehicles.
