Bredamenarini Avancity Plus
La Empresa Municipal de Transportes de Madrid (EMT) has recently added 39 compressed natural gas (CNG)-powered buses powered buses to its fleet, manufactured by Italian manufacturer Bredamenarini. EMT selected the 12-metre Avancity Plus CNG model with ZF six-speed Mercedes M906LAG 6,880 cc engine with an output of 205/279 kW/hp, designed to meet EEV emissions requirements. The acquisition builds EMT’s CNG bus fleet to 613 units, or 30% of its total fleet. Its goal for end 2011, stated in January 2010, is 663 buses.
The Avancity bus is powered by six CNG tanks with a capacity of 214 liters each (1,284 liters in total); its low fuel consumption guarantees autonomous operation for servicing Madrid’s commuters. It has capacity for 98 passengers (27 seated + 71 standing) and, like the rest of the EMT’s fleet, meets the stringent requirements for accessibility (low-floor ramp for wheelchairs, central platform double etc.).
EMT’s fleet also includes 15 Bredamenarini 8-metre Vivacity CNG midibuses. These and other CNG vehicles are based in EMT’s Sanchinarro Operations Center.
