Maxximus LNG 2000

Designer Marlon Kirby and car builder David B. McMahan, already a successful world speed record-breaking combination, have set their sights on a ‘green’ record with their newest street-legal supercar offering, the Maxximus LNG 2000, reports Inhabitat. The 1600 hp V8 supercar runs on compressed natural gas (CNG) and liquefied natural gas (LNG) to create what they claim is the fastest green car on the market today.

Technical notes on McMahan’s website state the Maxximus is configured as a mid Engine, rear-wheel drive with custom tuned suspension to handle the horsepower needed to break speed records. The engine is a twin turbo Chevrolet V-8, based on a Brodix all aluminum small block (434 cu. inch) engine. The motor is force-fed by two Turbonetics turbos and controlled by an Electromotive Tec3R engine management system. When spooled up the engine produces over 1,600 horsepower at the flywheel. To harness the power a custom 3 speed paddle shifting transmission was developed.

Another LNG-powered vehicle is also reportedly in the works — the Prodigy — another supercar for the consumer market said to have a 2000-horsepower engine and a million-dollar price tag.
